Can someone who did graduation by distance learning attempt the Civil service exam?

I have completed my BA with Hindi as my main subject through a correspondence course. Am I eligible for attempting the IAS? What are the requirements?

A graduation in the subject of Hindi ids definitely a good choice as many people are reluctant to take this stream because of the misconception that it doesn’t provide any career opportunities. Since you have taken the graduation in Hindi you are certainly apply for the Civil service exams because the minimum eligibility for attending the IAS is a graduation in any discipline from any recognized university or college.

The graduation being taken as a distance program or as a correspondence course, that also is not a big issue unless and until it is taken from a university or a college which is recognized by the UGC. The candidates should foresee that. Apart from this the candidates should also fulfill the other important requirements regarding the age etc which is specified as follows –

As already mentioned, the minimum eligibility for attending the IAS is a graduation in any discipline from any recognized university or college.

The age limit of the candidates should be between 21 years and 30 years. There is always a relaxation in case of age limit for the reserved categories as per the government rules. The total attempt will be 4 for the general category students and seven in case of OBC category. There is no limit in case f the SC/ST candidates.

The educational eligibility for sitting in the IAS exam is a graduation in any stream from a recognized university or college. It doesn't matter that the graduation is weather from distance learning, corrospondance, regular of private.
So, you are eligible to apply for IAS exam with your graduation. You should also check your other eligibility as age which should be between 21 to 30 years. Upper age relaxation is also given to the sc/st candidates of 5 years and obc of 3 years.
