Continue with IT job or should i do M.Tech?

    Hi,

I did my B.Tech Degree in ECE and am currently working in the Software Industry for the last two and a half years. I have become quite bored with the low level of work being done which does not have much scope for creativity and technical accomplishment.

Now, I am planning to take the GATE examination and do an M.Tech degree. My current position does not allow me to leave the job and give full time attention to studies so I will be preparing for the exam while doing my job.

    My question is, is it worthwhile to expend this effort in preparing for the GATE examination. Does it offer better career avenues where I can use the knowledge which I gained while doing my B.Tech degree; currently my ECE know how is of no use in the job I do and it feels like wastage of technical know how; what are the prospects of getting into good core electronic companies after getting the M.Tech degree;

Also, how much does the salary vary; I am willing to take a lower salary job if it does not vary significantly from my present salary, if the job interests me; the main thing is job satisfaction. Will I be able to crack the exam with part time study?

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading through my long post. Much appreciated.

    Hello dude!

A you want job satisfaction and now the current job you are doing is not giving any satisfaction so it is better if you quit the job and at the same time it is better if we talk about the disadvantage of quitting the job and doing M.Tech because every problem has both advantages and disadvantages.

In recent days M.tech has lost its value and even after doing the 2 years of course in M.Tech and then going to a job there will be no change in the salary and in recent days both B.Tech Graduates and M.tech Graduates are equally paid.

It will be just an additional qualification for you and if you really work well for the GATE exam then you really have a chance of getting job in the Public Sector Companies like IOCL,NTPC,POWER GRID etc which recruit candidates based on the GATE score by conducting an Interview process. So try in that way.

Even after still if you prefer to do M.tech then try to do it in IIT's or NIT's or any college which will provide you excellent opportunities for campus interviews.Other wise don't go for M.tech until and unless you choose a good college.

It is still better if you don't leave your job because there is no guarantee that you will get a seat in a good college for studying M.Tech,so then there will be no source of money so it's better if you don't leave your job and try to study while doing the job.

But the ultimate decision is your's and it is upto you to decide what to do.Think and choose a perfect one.

HOPE THE INFORMATION HELPED YOU AND ALL THE BEST.
    TAKE CARE & KEEP SMILING

Re: Continue with IT job or should i do M.Tech?

    Hello dear,

Job satisfaction depends on various factors like salary increment, role change , type of work, good work environment.
As you have said, you are not satisfied with your job currently, so I believe you should first talk to your PM or SPM about new type of work
or more technical work to use your technical if that is the reason of job satisfaction.
If you really find that nothing is working then you should seriously devote your time for gate. For Gate preparation you need to manage your timings
very well because you cant deny any work untill you are the employee.
If you are putting atleast 2 hours on each working day and 6-7 hours on offday or on holidays, then this preparation is sufficient to crack gate.
But such routine should be resular. During exam you must take a leave of 10 days so that you can ravise your syllabus very well. Final revision is compulsary.
Try to get admission in IITs only because after doing M.Tech from other colleges you'll again land in any other IT companies.
So all these efforts will of no use.
