    Detailed information regarding IAS/IRS/IFS?

    Hi,

    I am aspiring for IAS in a few years. Would like to take your guidance regarding the same.

    1. What is the role of an IAS officer in layman terms and detailed role?

    2. What is he expected to do?

    3. How many days a week is an IAS officer expected to work and how much time each day is he expected to devote to work?

    4. Whats the role of an IRS (layman and technical explanation) ?

    5. What is he(IRS Officer) expected to do?

    6. How many days a week is an IRS officer expected to work and how much time each day is he expected to devote to work?

    7. Is an IT engineer eligible for IFS (Indian Foreign Services)? If yes, what is the role of an IFS (Indian Foreign Services) officer in layman terms and detailed role?

    8. What is he(IFS) expected to do?

    9. How many days a week is an IFS officer expected to work and how much time each day is he expected to devote to work?

    10. Which of the following two subjects will be most beneficial for the role of an IAS/IRS/IFS -
    a. Psychology
    b. Public Adminstration
    c. Political Science and International Relations
    d. Mathematics

    11. To start the Psychology should I start with the NCERT or is there any other book which gives a nice introduction to the subject of psychology?

    12. To start the Public Administration, what are the books that give an introduction to the subject?

    13. To start the Political Science and International Relations, what are the books that give an introduction to the subject?

    The IAS exam written test pattern:
    Paper 1:One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate from the 18 languages included in the VIIIth Schedule to the Constitution (Qualifying Paper)
    For 300 marks
    Paper 2" English for 300 marks
    Paper 3 : essay for 200 marks
    Paper 4 & 5 : General studies for 600 marks
    Paper 6,7,8 & 9: Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) to be selected from the prescribed optional subjects (300 marks for each paper) for 1200 marks
    Total for 2000 marks
    After completion of written test you will have interview for 300 marks

    The IFS exam has a total of six papers in the written exam test.
    Paper 1 : General english for 300 marks
    Paper 2: General Knowledge for 300 marks
    Paper 3,4,5 & 6 will be from any two optional papers .each paper for 200 marks

    Total the written test will be for 1400 marks.
    Interview for 300 marks.

    hi,,,this is one of the most lengthiest questions i have seen in this forum ,i would try to answer your question in the order in which they are asked :
    1.the role of an IAS officer is to do the administrative job of the various government department ,its the ias officers who work as district collectors and also as the secretaries to various ministers .
    2.the main purpose of an ias officer is to see the smooth and proper functioning of the government machinery in accordance to the rules of the land without any differences on the basis of gender,cast/religion or age .
    3.the working of an ias is same standard time of any government office ,its an 9 to 5 job
    4.the INDIAN REVENUE SERVICES is an department which looks after the collection various taxes from the people and the various private companies ,they are the ones who collect the income tax,sales tax,vat,etc ...
    5.the job of ab irs officer is to see that each an every citizen falling under his jurisdiction is paying the income tax properly and if some ones does not pay then to punish him .
    6.the working of an irs officer is same standard time of any government office ,its an 9 to 5 job
    7.the role of an Indian forest services is to look after the forests of India and protect them from illegal poaching and cutting of trees
    8.an ifs officers duty is to look after the various actions to be taken to increase the forest area of the country and to protect the forest flora and fauna from the anti social elements .
    9.the working of an ifs officer is same standard time of any government office ,its an 9 to 5 job
    10.the subject which one is most comfortable is the best subject to choose and hence you are the best person to decide which subject to choose , because only you know in which subject you are most comfortable
    11. always the ncert text books are the best books to start any subject preparation
    12.the best book for public administration is by laxmikanth of tata macgrahill publishers
    13.book authored by laxmikanth of tata macgrahill is best for political science and Indian polity

    The Civil Services Examination and conducted by the UPSC govt and this is every year 2 times conducted for the various posts in the civil services examinations like;.IAS,IPS,IFS.

    Eligibility :

    Minimum Educational Qualifications:
    For his exams you need to complete the any degree from recognized university.
    Final year degree candidates are also apply for civil services exams.

    Age Limits:
    Minimum age is 21 years and maximum 30 years.

    Age Relaxation:
    5 years for S.C. and S.T. candidates
    5 years for ex-servicemen
    3 years for OBC candidates

    Number of attempts:

    General category candidates can apply four times,
    OBC candidates can apply seven times
    SC/ST candidates have no limit .

    For this exam the selection processor is based on the following 3 stages

    Stage I - Preliminary Examination
    Stage II - Main Examination
    Stage III - Interview

    Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.

    The basic eligibility criteria for Civil Services Exam are as follows:
    Educational Qualification
    The candidate must hold any degree in any discipline from any recognized university
    Final year degree students are also eligible
    Degree obtained by distance education/open university is also eligible if the university is a recognized university

    Age limit
    General 21-30 yrs
    SC/ST 21-35 yrs
    PH 21-40 yrs

    Number of attempts permitted
    General 4
    OBC 7
    PH 7
    SC/ST No Limit

    Nationality should be Indian.


    IFS stands for Indian Forest Services.
    The basic eligibility criteria for IFS Exam are as follows:

    Educational Qualification
    The candidate must graduate from any recognized university with at least one of the fourteen subjects given below:
    Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary science,
    Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Botany, Zoology,
    Agricultural engineering, Chemical engineering, Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering.
    Final year degree students are also eligible

    Age limit
    General 21-30 yrs
    SC/ST 21-35 yrs
    OBC 21-33 yrs

    Number of attempts permitted
    General 4
    OBC 7
    PH 7
    SC/ST No Limit

    Nationality should be Indian.
