    Hi,

    Indian Engineering Services Examination (IES) is conducted by UPSC, India every year. It is conducted for the recruitment to the engineering categories in government services like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering. Those who clear IES can join in good grades and they have a faster career progression in government sector. Those who are looking for a stable government job in engineering cadre, IES is the exam you need to watch out for. IES exam is usually conducted in June and it is an exam spread over three years. The notification of the exam commences on the month of January and applications.

    IES exam has some sections like objective type papers in engineering subject areas subjective papers different based on different engineering streams. IES is relatively a tough exam as it has a broader syllabus covering the specific engineering stream in depth.

    Structure and Pattern of IES
    Selection process of the candidates is based on Written Test and Personality Test. Only those candidates who get qualified for written test can attend personality test.

    Candidates must have Engineering degree ( BE/Btech) from a recognized university or equivalent. Those students appearing for final semester exam are also allowed to appear for this subjected to them submitting the degree certificates at the time of recruitment.     I.E.S is conducted by Union Public Service Comission every year in the month of August.The advertisement is normally released in February.

    Information About IES Examination -

    >> IES Stands for Indian Engineering Services and this examination was conducted by UPSC.

    Only those candidates are eligible for IES Examination, who have completed OR Pursuing his engineering Graduation Course from a recognised university And your age should between 21 to 30 years (If you are Belong to general category). Upper age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC and other reserved category candidates.

    >> For SC/ST Candidates - 5 Year Relaxation in Age

    Eligibility for IES exam-

    Student must have passed engineering from-
    1. Electrical Engineering
    2.Electronics & Communications Engineering
    3. Civil Engineering
    4.Mechanical Engineering

    M.Sc degree with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject is also eligible for IES exam.

    Final year year student can also apply.

    Age Limits:

    (a) A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August, of the current year

    (b) The upper age-limit of 30 years will be relaxable upto 35 years in the case of Government servants of the following categories, if they are employed in a Department/Office under the control of any of the authorities mentioned in column 1 below and apply for admission to the examination for all or any of the Service(s)/Posts mentioned in column 2, for which they are otherwise eligible.

    Indian Engineering Service exam is conducted by UPSC every year to take qualified Engineers to work in Engineering department in Government sector.
    Eligibility criteria for Indian Engineering Service examination:
    Education qualification:
    Minimum graduation degree in Engineering with either Mechanical/Electrical/Civil stream.
    Age limit:
    Age should be between 21 to 30 years.

    Indian Engineering Service exam details for this year:
    Issue of application from 25th Feb 2012 to 26th Mar 2012.

    eligibility-

    age limit - 21 years. with relaxation for reserved category .

    II-Conventional Papers

    -Candidate should be a post Graduate Degree from a recognized university in
    Economics/ Business Economics / Applied Economics /Econometrics for Indian Economic Service.

    Part A: General English. The question paper in General English will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.
    Part B: General Studies: The paper in General Studies will include knowledge of current events and of such matters as of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study.

    The Eligibility details of the IES EXAM are as follows:

    * Candidates must have completed Degree in the following desciplines:
    • ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
    • ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
    • CIVIL ENGINEERING
    • MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

    * Final year students of Engineering or equivalent degree are also eligible.

    * Candidates must not have not less than 21 years.

    * Maximum Age allowed is 30 years for candidates belonging to general category candidates.

    * Age relaxation is provided for the reserved categories.

    * 5 years for the SC/ST categories.

    * 3 years for OBC categories.

    The above mentioned are the eligibility details of the IES EXAM.

    HOW TO APPLY: UPSC applications are available for Rs.20/- at notified post offices all over the country. Rs.100/- through central recruitment Fee stamp only shall be attached. There is a fee exemption for SC/ST/FEMALE/PH candidates.

    DATE OF EXAMINATION: The IES EXAM generally falls in the last weeks of June every year.

    Eligibility for the IES:

    Educational Qualification: you should be passed the bachelor degree in engineering from any recognized university.
    Only four engineering students can apply for job:

    Civil engineer
    Electronics and communication engineer
    Mechanical engineer
    Electrical engineer etc

    Age limit: age must be below the 30 years.
    5 years age relaxation for the Sc/ST.

    IES exam 2012 eligibility, vacancy details

    With regard to IES exam 2012 vacancies, a total of 560 vacancies available for IES which includes 47 for PH candidates. The reservations of SC/ST, OBC and PH categories will be fixed as per Government norms.
    • Candidates should be of Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugee or persons migrated to India with the intention of permanent settlement in India are eligible to apply.
    • The age limit for IES 2012 exam is that the candidate should be between 21 to 30 years as on 01.01.2012. However the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC and 5 years for Ex-Servicemen. To know detailed age relaxation, you can refer the official site.
    • The minimum educational qualification required for IES 2012 exam is that the candidate must have acquired Graduation in Engineering from a recognized university or its equivalent qualification.     IES 2012 selection process, exam pattern and syllabus


    Selection process: The selection procedure to recruit Engineers of Government Engineering Services is based on part 1 written exam (IES), followed by part 2 personality test.

    Exam pattern and structure: The exam pattern for IES exam 2012 consists of Part I the written examination which consists of two sections where Section I is of objective type questions and Section II is of conventional paper. The duration for objective type questions will be for 2 hours for each paper and the time given to complete Conventional paper will be of 3 hours of duration to complete each paper. Each paper carries 200 marks. Please note that there will be negative marking for IES 2012 exam for every wrong answers in the objective type question papers.

    IES syllabus for Civil Engineering: The syllabus for IES 2012 Civil Engineering consists of two sections. Section I will have General Ability, Civil Engineering Paper I, Civil Engineering Paper II and Conventional papers on Section II has Civil Engineering paper I and Civil Engineering Paper II.

    IES syllabus for Mechanical Engineering: On Section I objective type questions you will have General ability test, Mechanical Engineering Paper I and Mechanical Engineering Paper II and on Conventional papers you will have Mechanical Engineering Paper I and II.

    IES syllabus for Electrical Engineering: On Section I objective type questions you will have General ability test followed by Electrical Engineering Paper I and II and on Conventional paper you have Electrical Engineering Paper I and II.
