    Exam criteria for IAS entrance exam? How to prepare for IAS through self study?

    sir, actually i m now persuing b_tech final year in IT branch...i want to know the exam criteria for ias ...plz tell me how can i prepare my self for IAS.

    Recruitment criteria for I.A.S post is as follows
    • Preliminary Exam
    • Mains Exam
    • Interview
    Yours desire is good,If you want to prepare self study.First you have to know every thing about these services after that you have to collect the material for this exam.
    Preliminary Exam
    First you have to attend the preliminary Exam,Generally this exam holds in the month of may or June month.Preliminary Exam have two papers.These two papers contains objective type of question.Each paper for 200Marks.
    Those papers are as follows
    • General Studies is Paper-I
    • Civil Service Aptitude Test is Paper-II
    Paper-I is General Studies
    For General Studies,You have to collect the material from individual special reference of every topis those topics are as follows
    Ecology and Bio-Diversity
    Economy
    General Science
    History
    Polity
    Current Affairs
    Geology

    Paper-II is Civil Service Aptitude Test
    For this paper you have to collect the material and prepare for following concepts those are as follows
    Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning
    Numerical Ability
    Reading Comprehension
    English Language

    If you are qualified in Preliminary Exam,You can eligible for Mains Exam.
    Mains Exam
    Main Exam have Nine Papers.These Nine Papers are descriptive Papers.If you cleared preliminary Exam,You can eligible for mains exam.
    Final one is Interview.

    IAS -- Indian Administrative Services .

    The Eligibility for appearing IAS Examination is :

    Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification

    The applicant must be an Age in between 21-30 & the Upper age limit relaxable for SCs/STs, OBCs and certain other categories .

    The No. of permissible attempts are Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs (Para 3 (iv) of Notice)

    The IAS Examination is a Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of objective type (multiple-choice questions) carrying a maximum of 400 marks .

    Examination would consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper II. The syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination would be as under :

    Paper 1 :-This is for 200 marks and it is a Duration of 2 hrs .
    And the questions asked from :

    Current events of national and international importance
    History of India and Indian national movement
    Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
    Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
    Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
    General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization
    General science.

    Paper II :- This is also for 200 marks and the Duration is also 2 hrs .
    And the questions asked from :

    Comprehension
    Interpersonal skills including communication skills
    Logical reasoning and analytical ability
    Decision making and problem solving
    General mental ability
    Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
    English language comprehension skills (Class X level)
    Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
    The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.

    So as you know the topics from which the Questions are asked , you start preparing which includes and related to these topics mentioned above .

    To appear for this Examination , you need to update your self day by day with the current events .
    Have a good knowledge on General Knowledge and Indian Politics .

    Keep watching News in Television , Read News Paper everyday .
    Go to library where you can find many books for preparing IAS Examinations , choose the best book and go through it .

    The acronym for IAS is Indian Administrative Service. This exam is conducted by the UPSC once in a year.

    Eligibility details:-

    Graduation is the educational qualification.

    Percentage is not important.

    You must be a citizen of INDIA.


    Age criteria:-

    The age limits are 21 years to 30 years,

    3 years relaxation for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.


    Selection steps:-

    Preliminary exam,

    Mains exam,

    Personal interview.
