If you are thinking of joining merchant navy after btech it is a good option .Generally the recruitment for merchant navy starts from 10 and 12th classes, but doing the same thing after btech matters ,you salary package increases to about 10 times. You can be a cadet or direct officer it depends on your qualification .A candidate who has completed marine engineering is eligible to join merchant navy. A candidate who has completed mechanical engineering too can join this stream. But for that they should have secured a minimum of 55% in the same. Since you have secured more than the minimum requirement you are certainly eligible to join. But your age should not be more than 25 years. You will need to appear the entrance exam based on the institute you plan to apply like that conducted by DG Shipping, IIT etc. On clearing the same you will need to join the institute for an one year training.
if u have completed your 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) u eligible to join as Deck Cadets and a student holding a bachelorís degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering could also join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.
just watch out for forms which has to be fill up necessarily by u . these forms can easily be bought from photostat shops .So be aware and ready .avoid wasting time, keep track in employment newspaper.

you have to be a B.E./ M.E. in Marine Engineering or else a B.Sc. in Nautical Science. For all these courses you have to have the basic 10+2 level qualification. In your twelfth standard exam you need to maintain a minimum 55 % aggregate (60 % in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and 50% in the subject of English).Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is the prime company that offers merchant navy jobs to freshers in India. Penron Shipping Private Limited, Great Eastern Shipping Company, NYK Ship Management (Subsidiary of NYK LINE) and Indus Cruising and Shipping are few other companies in India that provide merchant navy jobs to freshers in India
