    Importance of professionalism
The term is used to denote a white collar worker ,or a person who performs commercially in a field typically reserved for hobbyists or amateurs.

Professionalism is usually used to describe the type of behavior you would expect from a professional person. For example ,showing up to work on time, and focusing on the task at hand.and not fighting with your coworkers(unless you're a professional wrestler)

Professionalism represents skillfulness by virtue of possessing a special knowledge.

A Professional is a member of a vocation founded upon specialized educational training.Examples of professions include:medicine, law engineering and social work.

    In work place:

In work place, we have to need professionalism,

Every organization can grow throw the below four tips those are as follows:

1.As much as possible, behave the same as your prospect or customer.
People look for a company and business with a similar style and personality. If your prospect wears a suit, you should wear a suit.
If your customer addresses you as "Mr.West,"you,in turn, address her as "ms.staker.'

It is even better to stay on step to ahead. If your prospect wears khakis and a button-down,you should wear a light suit.If your customer calls you by your first name, continue to address the as Mr.or Ms.until they ask you to use their first name.

keeping up your professional appearance and manners is vital to gaining customer and keeping them.
    2.Avoid adressing personal matters:
This goes along with the first point.your prospect is looking for a particular level of professionalism
3.Bashing competitors is taboo.when competitors are brought up in conversation, the natural reaction is to go on the offense and begin bashing them.Never, ever do this .as far as you know, your prospect is currently working with that competitor and ctually hire them personally.
    4.Be punctual for all appointments.
Never keep your client waiting. Not only is lateness unprofessional ,it is insulting.your prospect's or customer's time is no less important than your own.

If you follow professionalism in your works place, you can get good name and fame .and improve your organization etc..

So every employ follow Professionalism,India occupy first rank in the world.so friend every one follow..

    Regards
    @Raja@

Proffessionalism means doing your job with perfection and this is an word that i think the employees of government of india have never heard and thats the reason why there should be an extensive debate on this ,every one in our country is talking of corruption and all other things but i think even this should be included in the big debate ,because the way these people treat the common man is completely unproffessional and also there style of working is the same too ,these people think that they can do anything and make the people suffer so its very important that these people are thought what is proffessionalism, its high time now and i think that the indian government should think on the lines of an private sector company and really start trying to improve this aspect. The government employees should be given training on proffessionalism and i think before joining the job also they should be given some training on proffessinalism ,also what we find in the government offices is that the people are involved in doing there personal works rather than the job what they are there for this is the complete opposite of proffessionalism and thats make the reason for them being thought so even more important ,

Re: Importance of Professionalism in the Work Place

    Hi
Professionalism in the workplace is not only beneficial for the company,
but for the employees who must work together daily. Being professional
includes the way you talk amongst other employees, the attire you wear,
your attitude towards your job and the way you conduct business.
Unprofessional behavior can hold the company and team back from becoming successful.

    Training

To ensure that employees are professional,
employers can conduct training classes and seminars on workplace etiquette,
where topics such as manners, integrity, presentation development,
time management and organization are discussed.

    Significance

Professionalism in the workplace prevents employees from goofing off when
they should be working. Behaving in a professional manner shows that
you value your job and the company's best interest.

    Professional Attire

It may seem simple, but the attire your employees wear in the workplace affects
your business deals. Professional attire makes a business seem more professional instead of unprofessional.

    Time At Work

The time that a person spends at work sometimes equals out to the amount of time
you spend at home. No one wants to be in a hostile or uncomfortable working environment.

    Identification

If an employee is not behaving professionally, it is important to identify the situation immediately,
so you can prevent the behavior from spreading to other employees. Regular employee evaluations
    help with this issue.

Importance of Professionalism in the Workplace

The importance of a professional presence in the workplace cannot be overlooked in 21st Century society. Most of us spend more time at work than at home, and friendships with our managers and co-workers have become commonplace. But, when the boundaries between professional and personal cross, there can be serious problems. Too much openness about personal issues, lack of respect for authority, gossiping and not returning telephone calls promptly are a few examples of unprofessional (but increasingly common) behaviors at all levels that kill corporate productivity and image. Our society has become faster-paced and more casual, but professionalism remains key in the business world – despite the trend toward casual dress and operating style.

With unemployment at record highs, the importance of professionalism in the workplace cannot be overlooked as a key to success and advancement. How you dress, speak, act, write and work determines whether you are a professional or an amateur. Since our culture has become more relaxed and casual, many believe that amateur work is acceptable and thus many businesses accept mediocre results. However, those organizations that stress the importance of professionalism in the workplace are usually growing, vibrant entities.

Re: Importance of Professionalism in the Work Place

    The Importance of Professionalism
Professionalism is a core component to maintaining competitiveness in business. It’s quite disappointing to note that many businesspeople, employees and organizations don’t place enough of an emphasis on the importance of professional conduct. In today’s dynamic business environment, where information is equally available to everyone, businesses must learn to adapt and professionalize to become world class organizations. Time and again, I hear people disregard the need for professional presentation and conduct by simply saying “Ah, but it’s only Botswana… this is how things are here.” When I hear statements like that, I have an intense need to shake some sense into these so-called business leaders and warn them about the changing times “No!” I strongly yell back, “That’s how things WERE.”

Take a look at the difference between the way the large companies operate and the way the small and mid-sized companies do in Botswana. There’s such a stark contrast in professionalism, conduct and corporate message, far more than the rest of the world. The fact that most small and mid-sized businessmen overlook is that while the order of business over the last few decades was to buy low and sell high and to buy in bulk and sell individually, the days of simple trade are drawing to an end. Botswana has entered an age of global competition. With the weak Pula and strong Rand, many South African companies have started to look north with growing temptation. How long do you think it will be before a new set of dynamic young entrepreneurs bring in professional business practices to shake up the climate of ‘business as usual’. I call this new generation of entrepreneurs the “Sharks in the fish tank”. Today, there are more opportunities to do ‘the same thing better’ than ever before. Young, eager entrepreneurs with a global outlook and fresh international ideas would stir Gaborone alive with their keen innovative ways of just doing the same thing better.

Botswana’s mid-market lags behind the rest of the world in a lot of soft areas that are outside the core functions of business. I’m talking about systems and processes, internal controls, branding, sales and marketing, advertising, public relations, employee motivation, skills development, and human resources to name a few. Hardly any businesses invest in continuing development programs, improving skills within the organization, promoting business networking or other areas of long-term improvement. Botswana’s small and mid sized businesses have become stagnant dinosaurs. Some blame it on the country’s small market, but why can’t these Botswana-based companies become competitive enough to become serious regional players. We’re in a region of over 50 million people… isn’t that a large enough population base?

The media in Botswana has been quick to assume the role of consumer watchdog, but messages are purely one sided because businesses haven’t learned the art of dealing with the media or countering situations involving a disgruntled customer. How many times have you seen newspapers run defamatory stories about a company only to have the management turn a blind eye to the happenings, or send a poorly drafted response which only makes things worse. Seriously… how many businesses even use a PR consultant?

To those readers looking to get into business or get the best job they can, or even for anyone just looking to get ahead, I can not stress the importance of professionalism enough. Conduct yourself in a professional manner. From the way you dress to the way you walk, talk and act. Go the extra mile for your clients, and end every phone call with “Is there anything more I can do for you?” It’s these small things that really matter. To sum it all up, professionalism is an ideology. From your logo, to your business cards, to your business structure and to your management philosophy; inculcate an ideology of professionalism into everything you do. These small steps will put you far ahead of the rest, and you’ll truly be that shark in the fish tank.

The Importance of Professionalism in Business

Professional workplace behavior is necessary for the long-term success of a business, whether it’s a big corporation or small business. Employee interactions and relationships with customers are of vital importance to ensure that company goals and objectives are met. A professional work place attitude and appearance allow employees to take pride in their work and improve worker performance. Managers who behave professionally set an appropriate example by encouraging their people to conduct themselves in a manner that supports company-wide success.
    Establish Boundaries
Professionalism in the work place establishes boundaries between what is considered appropriate office behavior and what is not. While most managers support an enjoyable and vibrant work environment, limits must be put in place to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings. Workers who conduct themselves professionally steer clear of crossing the line with their conversations and other interactions with co-workers, superiors and clients.
    Encourage Improvement
A business environment in which employees dress and operate professionally is more conducive for success. According to “Dress for Success,” a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping businesswomen obtain professional work attire, professional dress codes support career development and personal growth in the work place. Workers who dress and act professionally feel better about themselves and are encouraged to perform better for their clients.
    Maintain Accountability
Companies that interact directly with clients are obligated to provide the best services possible and present their company in the best possible light. Professionalism counts when providing written information to clients. Professionally written company reports, business plans or other correspondence help businesses remain accountable with their level of service. According to the Small Business Administration, “the impression given in the paperwork submitted is important.”
    Promote Respect
Professionalism in business establishes respect for authority figures, clients and co-workers. Maintaining a professional demeanor limits gossip and inappropriate personal conversations that could be considered disrespectful. Keeping a professional attitude with clients who behave inappropriately demonstrates the level of respect an employee has for the customer and the business partnership.
    Minimize Conflict
Conflicts are less likely to arise in a professional business environment. Workers who respect each other’s boundaries and conduct themselves professionally rarely have disagreements that cannot be resolved efficiently. Professionalism in business also benefits diverse environments in which business people and their clients have several different perspectives and opinions. Professional behavior helps business people avoid offending members of different cultures or backgrounds

They do not have to depend on others whims and fancies and neither have to become the victim of office politics.
