    • This is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and the examination is divided in to three successive stages.
    1. The Preliminary Examination and

    Eligibility IPS exam:

    Chest:


    • Minimum male candidates are 84cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.
    • In the case of female candidates the minimum requirement is 79cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.

    Eye sight:


    • 6/12 or 6/9 distant vision for worse eye and 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. Near vision for worse eye is J2 and for good eye is J1.
    • The physical standards are weekly run for 10kms in 60 minutes.

    Preliminary Examination:


    • In this have multiple choice questions and this is also a qualifying for second exam.

    Main Examination:

    • In this you have a written exam and an interview.

    No of attempts:


    • General category 4 times,
    • OBC 7 times
    • SC/ST no limit.

    Syllabus for IPS Exam:

    The examination is conducted in three stages,


    • Preliminary examination,
    • Main examination and
    • Interview.

    The preliminary examination is divided into two papers they are general studies and optional subject.

    IPS exam is a part of the Civil Services examination.

    Eligibility:

    Age: You must be between 21-30 years at the time of filling the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam form .

    After completion of your graduation you are eligible for IPS exam.

    (i) Age limits :
    21-30 years. (Upper age limit relax able for SCs/STs, OBCs and certain other categories).

    (ii) Educational Qualifications :
    Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification .

    (iii) No. of permissible attempts :
    Four (Seven attempts of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs )

    2.You should be an indian citizen.
    3.You should have minimum 60% aggregate in any recognised university.
    4.You should not exceed the age criteria.

    IPS stands for INDIAN POLICE SERVICE. Its exam is conducted under Civil services exam. The exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
    The exam is conducted every year for filling the vancat post of grade first police officer in police department.

    Dear pal,
    to become a IPS officer you need have certain academic as well as physical background.
    The academic background with which you will be eligible is a Bachelor degree from a stream in which you have your interest.
    The age above which one will be prevented from appearing for the UPSC exam is 30 for the aspirant from general category .The age limit is been relaxed to 33 for OBC candidates and 35 for SC/ST candidates.
    You need to satisfy the physical criteria in addition to this which includes height and chest.

    Male
    160cm for general,OBC
    155 for sc/st aspirants
    Female
    general category 150cm
    SC/ST candidates 145cm

    Any person having Indian citizenship and have graduation degree can apply for Civil Service exam conducted by UPSC for recruiting personnel for IPS cadre.The applicant must have attained the age of 21 years.The details of eligibility and procedure can be viewed at www.upsc.gov.in.The exam is of 3 stage and its considered one of the toughest exam to crack.Best of luck!!!!!!!!!

    To Become a Indian Police Service/Indian Administration Service/Indian Revenue Service officer,you should appear for Civil Service exam,if you get good rank in Civil Service exam,then you can become a Indian Police Service Officer.
    This exam is conducted by UPSC every year once.This exam consist of three level of exam i.e
    >>Preliminary Exam
    >>Main Exam
    >>Interview

    If you clear the Preliminary exam,then only you can appear for Main Exam and Interview respectively.

    Eligibility criteria to Civil Service Exam:

    The IPS recruitment is conducted through UPSC services.To become an IPS officer you should qualify the below criteria.
    1.Candidate should completed the graduation in any recognized university.

    The special Physical Requirements for IPS are that the candidates appearing for the personality test on clearing the civil services mains exam have to meet certain physical requirements to be eligible for IPS.
    1) Minimum height of 165 cm for Men and 150 cm for Women (minimum height is relaxable to 160 and 145 cm for Men and Women respectively in the case of candidates belonging to ST ). 2)Min Chest girth fully expanded: 84 cm for Men and 79 cm for Women. Expansion of 5 cm for Men and Women.

    Dear friend, IPS(INDIAN POLICE SERVICE) exam is conducted by upsc also called as civil service exam.This exam is conducted by upsc every year and it comprises of three parts :first you will have to preliminary exam and after this if you get minimum marks for elligibility to give main exam then only you can give main exam and after main exam if quailify for interview you are called for interview and after all these processes on the basis of individual's performance the selection is done .     To become IPS officer,
    you will need to apper in the civil service examination.
    Civil Service examination is conducted every year by UPSC(union public service commission).

    Eligibility

    • IPS refers to Indian police services, for entrance into it you must have to give Civil services examination conducted by the UPSC every year.
    • As per the criteria, you must have completed the graduation in any stream/discipline from an recognised university.
    • Your's age must be between 21 years to 30 years.
    • You will be given age relaxations if you are from an Obc category for 3 years, sc/st category for five years and for physically handicapped student it is 10 years.

    IPS is the prestigious civil services exam conducted by UPSC

    Educational qualifications: All you need to have is a graduation degree from any recognized university to appear for IPS, i.e., for Civil Services Exam.

    Eligibility Criteria :

    1.Age limit
    21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs . Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate.

    2.Number of Attempts
    Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

    3.Restrictions on applying for the examination:
    A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.

    4. Minimum Physical Standard
    The physical standards are important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc. I shall give a detailed a/c of this sometime.
    Services are divided into technical and non-technical. Technical services are IRTS, IPS, DANI PS, CISF, RPF & other Police organization. The Medical standards for Technical Services are stringent.

    For IPS-

    Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

    Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm

    Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
    Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.
    (Those can’t expand the chest go to next service. If expansion is less during 1st Medical, i.e. just after interview; during second Medical, i.e. after the result, or appeal, expansion can be shown.)

    Many people fail in this test of chest expansion.
    (I know some people who have cleared this exam during the second Medical Test, i.e. after the Medical Exam conducted after the declaration of Final result)

    Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The correction is by lenses only.
    High standard for the Colour -blind test. No inherent night blindness. Vision should stereoscopic.



    Blood pressure (High) –
    Age 23 – 123,
    age 24 – 124,
    age 25 –122,
    age 28 – 124,
    age 30 –125,
    age 32 – 126,
    age 34 – 127.

    Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of Medical Test.

    Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment shd not be more than 30 decibels.

    Nasal- candidate should not stammer while speaking.

    Exam Pattern :
    All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages:

    • Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.
    • Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview.

    The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November. One must begin preparations of the main exam along with preliminary exam. This is because there is little time for the Main exam if one waits for the results of the Preliminaries.

    REQUIREMENT FOR BECOMING IPS OFFICER IN INDIA:
