I have done my engineering in Civil. What type of government jobs can Civil engineers opt in for?

There is ample scope for civil engineers as in the case of any other engineering streams. Though most of the candidates prefer all the other major streams , this is a stream where in the possibilities are not been explored . may be in India , the IT industries being in recession state, more opportunities may be in government sectors.
    • These civil engineering graduates can also find in jobs in public firms, research and teaching institutes etc .
    • The scope for jobs of civil engineers may increase as far as average jobs are concerned ,even though a slight fluctuations in the field of constructions. These professionals may be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities as well as to construct new ones.
    • Civil engineers are also employed in fields of construction projects of central government , railways , consultancy services etc.
    • Opportunities exist in the public sector in all fields of construction, design, maintenance, infrastructure development as a whole.
As far as the construction industry is concerned it going in the right track with development in the field of infrastructure. Apart from India that too in public sector enterprises more opportunities are available abroad in Middle East etc where infrastructure development is slowly picking up and there is high demand for civil engineers.

Re: Scope of Civil Engineering in government sector jobs?

For entering into railway sector job there are two ways:

1>Go for SCRA exam held once in two years after 12 class.
after selecting in this exam you have to study mechanical engineering in their institute.

2>Do preperation fo IES exam(Indian engineering service)....these exam you give after completion of b-tech.
But for these exam you have to take core branch(ee,me,civil).

So,if you are really interested in railway jobs just take core branches.

but if you are interested in CE then just go through it there is lot of good jobs in private sector.

i hope this information will help you.

    good luck

Re: Scope of Civil Engineering in government sector jobs?

    Dear Friend

Your specialization is good enough to get you a decent government job

    UPSC conducted IES,IAS,IPS,ISS
    Indian Railway Recruitment Board
    Indian Army

You should not worry for the type of job at all.

If you are willing to take up some government job then you should apply to following

companies when they publish notification for recruitment.

    ISRO
    DRDO
    BSNL
    BHEL
    SAIL
    BPL
    IOCL
    BPCL
You marks in Graduation is okay for PD or PWD category.

If you are interested in Teaching profession then first do M.Tech. and then apply for

NET examination. You will be a lecturer in a Govt./Private college if you qualify this exam.

However, you can get a job in some private institution through just an interview

but that will not raise you to Professor.

    best luck

There is no one typical career path for civil engineers. Most people who graduate with civil engineering degrees start with jobs that require a low level of responsibility, and as the new engineers prove their competence, they are trusted with tasks that have larger consequences and require a higher level of responsibility. However, within each branch of civil engineering career path options vary. In some fields and firms, entry-level engineers are put to work primarily monitoring construction in the field, serving as the "eyes and ears" of senior design engineers; while in other areas, entry-level engineers perform the more routine tasks of analysis or design and interpretation. Experienced engineers generally do more complex analysis or design work, or management of more complex design projects, or management of other engineers, or into specialized consulting, including forensic engineering.

    Hi

Civil Engineers can get good jobs not only with the private sector, but the public sector too. It is possible for freshers to get employed as trainee or junior engineer. B.Tech Civil Engineers can appear in the UPSC exam which is carried out every year. B.Tech graduates can appear in the IAS, IPS as well as the IES civil service exam for getting jobs in the government sectors. The PSC also carries out exams as to select qualified engineers in to various state government departments like Public work department or PWD. Those who are skilled in this field have a chance to get promoted into the posts of Assistant Engineers, Executive Engineers etc. Engineering professionals in the field of Civil Engineering are required in fields such as Gas and Oil plants, Power generation firms, Construction of pipelines and water mains etc. The Railway recruitment Board is another major recruiter of B.Tech Civil Engineers. Candidates can also try their luck in the defense sector.
